Captain Jenn Casey Memorial Scholarship Fund

CAPTAIN JENNIFER ROSE CASEY, Canadian Forces Snowbirds Public Affairs Officer and MRH alumna, was killed in a tragic air crash in Kamloops on May 17, 2020. Canada mourned her death, and we, alumni and staff of MRH, felt a particularly personal sense of grief and loss. A scholarship fund has been established in her memory, and we deeply appreciate permission from her family to provide assistance to future MRHers who wish to participate in this unique and powerful experience. REFLECTIONS ON JENN CASEY (March 1, 1985-May 17, 2020) shared by the 2007 cohort

Light. That is the word that constantly comes up from MRH 2007 alumni and staff when speaking of Jenn Casey. Her bright personality shone throughout the trip.

Jenn treated everyone with the same good-natured, respectful patience, humour and kindness. She was always there to support those around her. When the trip became overwhelming, she would be there with a pat on the back, a hug or just a quick smile from across the group.

In a group of leaders, she took on a leadership position. In any debrief, you knew that when Jenn spoke, every word was well thought out and many viewpoints were represented. When it came time to thank the staff on the trip, Jenn stepped forward to make sure cards were signed and gifts were purchased and presented.

Jenn always went above and beyond. Always.

Jenn left a mark on everyone on the trip. Even if many lost contact as the years passed, they still followed her career. Jenn’s light continued to shine in so many ways. She was a driving force behind Operation Inspiration.

This light was the hope of the survivors, Judy Cohen and Pinchas Gutter, who accompanied us on our trip. They believed that WE could continue to shine a light on their experiences. That the group could fight back against those spreading hate and disinformation. That we would continue the legacy of “Never Forget”.

From darkness comes light. While we mourn the loss of Jenn, this scholarship aims to keep her light shining. This scholarship will allow others to be the light.
